Diary updated

The Band's diary has been updated with several new engagements added during March. Notably Kippax will be competing in the Buxton contest in May (own choice testpiece) followed by some exciting concerts planned for the summer. These include two busy weekends in September when we will be holding our annual cabaret evening at the band club (18th) followed by an appearance at Castleford Civic Centre for a joint concert with the Male Voice Choir on the 25th.

Kippax in the Club this Sunday

As well as being Mothering Sunday, the 14th sees Kippax return to the Club for our monthly concert. With our recent focus being geared to the ‘Area’ this week’s rehearsals have been hectic, with David choosing a demanding and entertaining programme for the weekend.

Proceedings start at 8:00 o’clock as usual, so we hope to see you there!

Kippax in 9th place at Bradford

Kippax recorded a slightly disappointing 9th place finish at the ‘Areas’ in Bradford, with an uncharacteristically ‘edgy’ on-stage performance.

Some fine Solo playing, notably from Nigel and Faye was the highlight of the day, but ‘clips’ in the ensemble left the Band with a feeling of ‘what might have been’ had we taken our rehearsal form on stage. Despite the lowly placing Kippax should comfortably retain its 1st Section status but will be looking for an improved result at the 2011 area, which is the only contest on which a Band’s grading is based.

Our next contesting outing is scheduled for the 1st weekend in May where we go to Buxton with an ‘own choice’ test piece looking to make amends.

Good luck at the Areas

Well done with the new website and good luck at the Area on Saturday, we've every confidence in you!

All set for Bradford

The Band make the short journey to Bradford on Saturday to compete in the 1st Section of the Yorkshire Regional contest. Holst’s ‘A Moorside Suite’ has proved to be a demanding test of musicality but David and the Band head to St. Georges Hall in good spirits and keen to make an impression.

The pundits at popular brass-banding website ‘4Bars rest’ don’t fancy the Band’s chances, with their customary predictions forecasting the Hammonds Saltaire and Yorkshire Imperial Bands as being the firm favourites to make the trip to Harrogate in the Autumn for the National finals, with Kippax not featuring in their ‘top six’ of the twelve band field.

Time will tell, but the Band are determined to give a good account of themselves come Saturday afternoon.
