Departures spark recruitment drive

Sunday's club concert saw the last appearance for two players. Long-serving Solo Trombonist Paul Wilkinson leaves for a fresh challenge and front-line cornet player Cheryl Spencer is moving on to join her local band EYMS. Both go with our best wishes.

Hatfield in the club in june

The Powerfuel Hatfield Band are our guest band in the club in June. Fresh from their appearance at the Spring Festival in Blackpool, we look forward to an exciting programme from the Band.

New recruit joins on 1st Horn

A big welcome to Stephanie Rutherford who joins the band on 1st Horn. Fresh from an extended travelling break Stephanie was straight into the hot seat, making her concert debut at Sunday's band club concert.
Stephanie's arrival marks the end of a long search for the 1st Horn chair, Anita and Andrea will be relieved to finally land a mate!

Sunday's band club concert saw Kippax open up with two pieces making their premiere in the club. MD David's edit of 'The Arabian' got proceedings underway in rousing fashion and the band followed-up with their prize-winning own choice work 'Tallis Variations'.
The real stars of the show though were the Kippax Youth Training Group who then took centre stage with Beethoven's 'Ode to Joy' opening a 20-minute spot under the direction and encouragement of Paul Wilkinson. A full-house comprising many proud parents and grandparents were very appreciative and gave the boys and girls a very warm reception.

2nd place at Buxton

Playing off a number one draw with Philip Sparke's 'Tallis Variations', Kippax returned from Derbyshire with a very creditable Second place and a tidy haul of silverware.
David and the Band felt that 'Tallis' was well-suited to our strengths and so it proved, finding favour with Adjudicator David Horsfield. Indeed Kippax were only pipped to First prize by the Championship section graded GT Group Peterlee Band, who dusted off their area test piece to take the First prize. And so we made the late journey back to West Yorkshire with no less than three pieces of silverware, with the Trophy for Second Prize (and £200), another for the Best placed First Section Band and to round things off Nigel (Principal Cornet) took the soloist prize.
Finally, a special thanks to Alison Grantham (EYMS Band) and Tony Wood (Horbury) who 'depped' on First Horn and Bass Trom respectively, thanks both!
