15th July - Entertainment Contest- Heat Three- results

The final heat of this year's entertainment contest took place last sunday. Both competing bands (EYMS and Pennine Brass) played highly entertaining and challenging programmes which a capacity audience at the Kippax Band club appreciated. The final results saw the audicator Colin Hardy announce EYMS as winners.

EYMS now take their place in the final on Sunday 9th of November against fellow finalists- Drighlington and Harrogate. What a cracking final it should be.

9th July - Entertainment Contest- Heat Three

The final heat of 2008's entertainment contest takes place this Sunday (13th of July) at Kippax Band Club at 8pm. This heat features the EYMS and Penine Brass bands.

This year the EYMS band, based in East Yorkshire have not only qualified in the Championship Section to represent the North East of England at the National Championships but in May they also travelled to Blackpool and secured victory in the Senior Cup section of the Spring Festival. Pennine Brass also come with recent wins under their belt, not least the first section national championship which they won in Harrogate in 2007.

Please arrive early to secure a seat to listen to this battle between two immense bands.

1st July - New Musical Director

The Band would like to welcome David Horn as their new musical director with effect from the 1st of July 2008. David has been rehearsing the Band for the past month and we are delighted that David has accepted the offer to become the new MD. The Band are looking forward to a long and mutually successful relationship with David, aiming towards the Pontins Contest later in 2008 and ultimately success in the Area competition in March 2009.

For further details of David please visit the musical director section in Meet the Band

27th June - New arrival

The Band's E Flat Bass player- David Jackson is today celebrating the birth of his second son. Weighing in at 7lbs 5ozs Elijah Wilfred Jackson arrived after a gruelling 24 hour labour. Well according to David it was gruelling for him!

23rd June 2008 - Hello

The Band would like to announce the return of a former player. Faye Thompson has decided to rejoin the Band on Soprano Cornet after a break of three years. Faye originally left the Band to give birth to her first son however the Brass Band bug did not leave her for long and she had spells at Knottingley and Gawthorpe bands. We are delighted Faye has returned to the Band and she has already demonstrated her gifted playing and her dedication to the Band.

We hope Faye's return is the just the start of a busy period of recruitment. We are looking to recruitment some new players in preparation for the Pontin's contest later in the year and also for our assault on the National Championship Area competition next march. Please visit our recruitment page to see the vacancies we have at the moment- vacancies

23rd June 2008 - Goodbye

The Band wish to say goodbye to four players. The first two are Stuart and Julie Jackson. They have played Solo Cornet and Euphonium respectively with the Band for the past couple of years. They will be an extremely big loss to the Band not only because of their high standard of playing but also their assistance within the Band's organisation.

We also wish to say goodbye to Andy and Sue Fake. It was an extremely sad day when both resigned from the Band. Similar to Julie and Stuart both have displayed a high standard of playing which has been central to the Band's success over the past two years. Both Andy and Sue have received individual awards within the Band. Andy has also been a significant figure within the Band and club's committee and the good news from yesterdays AGM is that he will continue to be an active member of the club committee. Andy has also been the webmaster of the Band's website since 2005 and I'm sure everyone will agree that he has not only maintained the site but pushed it on to new levels.

On a personal note I'm very happy to take over once again as webmaster. As Andy stated below I was the original designer of the site so it certainly has sentimental attachment for me. I do wish to continue Andy's sterling work and continue to develop the site. Any comments and suggestions would be most grateful.
